Summary

Our course is designed specifically for nursing teams (practice nurses, HCA, GPAs) within primary care environments.  This interactive training equips participants with the skills needed to have conversations with patients around health behaviours, and giving tough news, conversations with people when personal boundaries are overstepped, and conversations with colleagues around performance.

Aims

By the end of this course delegates will be better able to:

  • Describe and understand what it is that makes conversations feel difficult
  • Recognise how perceptions impact upon our willingness and ability to have difficult conversations
  • Understand the impact of not maintaining personal boundaries on wellbeing and resilience

  • Have conversations around behaviour
  • Have conversations about unhelpful patient behaviours around their chronic illnesses
  • Understanding unreasonable expectations and changing how we feel about them
  • Moving from the “feel-act” dynamic to the “feel-think-act” dynamic.
  • Using language of understanding rather than conflict.
  • Techniques to develop rapport using language and questioning.
  • Making the patient feel you are working with them and not against them.
  • Managing personal feelings
  • Understand and develop stress management strategies
