Primary Care Leadership Training

Summary

Leading in Primary Care is a practical leadership development programme designed for current and aspiring leaders working within general practice, Primary Care Networks and wider primary care services.

The programme explores what effective leadership looks like in the day-to-day reality of primary care. Participants examine their own leadership style, develop greater self-awareness and explore the behaviours that help leaders build trust, inspire others and create positive team cultures. Through reflection, discussion and practical application, delegates gain a deeper understanding of how their actions, communication and values influence the people around them.

Rather than focusing on leadership theory alone, the course helps participants develop practical approaches that can be applied immediately within the workplace. Topics include leadership versus management, influence without authority, courageous leadership, curiosity, integrity, communication, trust and compassionate leadership. Delegates also explore how to create a shared vision, motivate teams, develop talent and support others through change.

The programme recognises that leadership in primary care often involves working across organisational boundaries and influencing people without direct line management responsibility. Participants develop skills that help them lead effectively within multidisciplinary teams, Primary Care Networks and integrated care systems, whilst supporting collaboration, innovation and service improvement.

Whether you are new to leadership or looking to strengthen your existing approach, this programme provides the confidence, insight and practical tools needed to lead with authenticity, purpose and impact.

This course forms part of our wider Primary Care Leadership Training pathway.
