Understanding Infection Control and Transmission:

Participants delve into the intricacies of infection prevention and control, exploring pathogenic organisms, the sequence of infection, and various transmission methods, including contact, droplet, and airborne pathways.

Hand Hygiene:

We emphasise the critical role of hand hygiene in preventing infection spread, covering WHO’s “5 Moments for Hand Hygiene” approach and demonstrating proper handwashing techniques and the use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers.

Minimising Cross Transmission:

Participants learn strategies to minimise cross transmission risks associated with respiratory illnesses, focusing on the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, gowns, and eye protection.

Care Equipment and Environment Management:

Guidance is provided on sterile equipment usage checklists, assessment of the care environment, cleaning protocols, and schedules to maintain a safe and hygienic healthcare setting.

Safe Waste Disposal and Occupational Safety:

We address the safe disposal of waste, including sharps, and emphasise occupational safety measures to prevent exposure, including sharps injuries. Participants gain insights into the types of clinical waste, safe disposal methods, and the use of sharps containers.

By completing our Infection Control in Primary Care Course, healthcare professionals acquire the knowledge and proficiency necessary to safeguard both patients and themselves from the risks of healthcare-associated infections.

The course will cover these aims as required in the NHS Infection Control guidance.

Understanding Infection Transmission in Primary Care for general practice nurses and ARRS roles.

  • Outline the objectives of infection prevention and control.

Hand Hygiene
