Snomed and Read Coding

The Snomed training (England and Wales) and Read training (Scotland) establishes the baseline knowledge for the Note Summarising course.
The course will raise confidence, eliminates the most common mistakes with a simple to use structure, and will improve the quality of the coding in the practice, making for more accurate computerised information, better searches, recalls, QoF (England and Wales).
It uses simple to use structures that all coders, whether new or experienced, will benefit from.
Aims
Snomed
- To examine the reasons for coding
- Snomed Concepts (England and Wales) or Read Concepts (Scotland)
- Explaining how concepts can be used to increase accuracy.
- To explain searching techniques for coding
- To develop an understanding of common coding errors and how to make good
- Showing how common Read terms map into Snomed
- Snomed and Read search browsers
- To concentrate on improving data quality by correct coding
Who Should Attend?
- Summarisers and Coders
- Managers who wish to develop a better overview of coding
- Nurses/GPs who wish to develop insight into coding

Some confusing tangents but the link provided to search for read codes was most useful. - (LB)
It gave a better insight as to how SNOMED was needed and used as never understood the implications of using incorrect concepts. The course has explained this information in good detail. Need to look at how to use this new knowledge within how I'm coding from documents - has given me more insight into coding. - (HE)

Extremely informative, especially going forward when patients will be able to read their own records, Obviously it is extremely crucial that all medical data is correct but even so now that patients will be able to view their records.
